“Shoes, camera, Walkman ... I am ready!”
The Harrisburg Writers on the Web Project was founded in the spring of 1999.  Our purpose is to present and preserve on the web the urban art form commonly referred to as “graffiti” from Harrisburg and its suburbs.  Though hWWP is primarily concerned with preserving the more artistic work, examples of the overall scene are included for context, perspective, and just because we want to.  We also maintain an archive of some of the best graffiti sent to us on an irregular basis by our correspondant in Melbourne, Australia, the incomparable Andrew Wilmot.  We consider the Melbourne metro and suburban area our “sister region.”  Our Melbourne collection now has its own web site at Melbourne Writers on the Web Project.

We do accept scans and photos of graffiti in and around Harrisburg.  However, we do ask that you send us an email before you email any scanned pictures to us, so we can ensure that we don't already have a picture of what you're sending us already, and that the picture size is acceptable (we don't want to have to download huge files that we already have any more than you do).  To mail flix to us via snail mail (standard, USPS mailman pick it up and delivers it kind of thing), you'll also have to email us to get our address.

If you see a piece of urban art you think belongs here, but don't have a camera, can't take a picture of it, or won't take a picture of it, you can tell us about it and we'll see if we can't get a picture of it ourselves.  Once again, please email us with information.

If you see a piece here that is not attributed to the correct writer, or not attributed at all, and you know who did it, guess what you have to do?  That's right!  Email us!  Under certain circumstances (like a burner that says ped that some toy wants us to attribute to him/her), we may require more proof than just your say-so.  We'll let you know.

Answers to many of the other questions can probably be found on the Art Crimes web site, which maintains an extensive graffiti FAQ.  hWWP agrees with many of the opinions expressed on that site, so most of the information and answers you will see there are the same answers we would give if we had the time.  Answers more specific to our site and the hWWP can be found at our own abbreviated FAQ.

This project is privately maintained and supported by several people and MillerThought Industries.  We don't know any of the artists personally - if you want to contact one of them, you'll have to see if you can find them yourself (we don't even try to find out who they are).  Of course, if you see a real name, or an email address, or a web page listed on this site, then obviously we do know that much contact information.  Such contact information is provided by request of that individual ONLY.  No matter what, we do not provide any other kind of contact information - this site is a journalistic endeavor for the community, and any other information is protected as a confidential source by the Constitution of the United States.
